High rev on startup
WebDec 9, 2006 · 2. When I start my new '06 Tacoma with the 4 litre (2.7 litre) engine, the engine starts and revs around 2K. This seems awfully high to me. Any other vehicle I have driven starts revinng from a cold start at around 1200 rpm. Like all vehicles, the Tacoma soon slows down to around 750 rpm. It is just the initial high revving that gets me concerned. WebJan 2, 2024 · My 89 F250 4.9L with a 92 ECU will rev up to 1800RPM for about 10 to 20 seconds then drops down to normal. When I start it, I pop the gas pedal once just after it starts and the engine will drop the high idle. I think in 91 or 92 Ford started to make these engine HIGH idle like that as the older ECU (89) did not do that.

I know cold start idle is a little higher but the rpm is just too high. Anyone have this issue?? I am thinking it is maybe a IAC valve issue. WebJan 18, 2024 · The reason for the high RPM on startup is likely excessive air, either from a throttle body or other intake leak, sticky TB or IAC, or the PCM thinking that the intake air and/or coolant temperatures are ridiculously low, thus adding steps to the IAC position.

It is normally a combination of the idle air control valve and enrichment maps in the ecu. Once the coolant temp sensor reads that the engine is heating properly, the ecu lowers the amount of fuel it sends to the engine and the iacv closes. 1 - 8 of 8 Posts

I would be happy with +-1000rpm on startup - think that is about what it was. Car is warm at the moment, just started it and it went to: Neutral : +-1500. as it engages : +-1800.

If it does die, the third startup typically doesn't cause a rev up. Once running, the motor has a stumble / cough / miss every 3-4 seconds. Using a spray water filled bottle, go around seams and also spray vacuum lines and the EGR pod while the engine is running. Any openings will draw in the water and affect RPM.
